There was a report on the TV last night about a Pakistani christian woman sentenced to death
for blaspheming the prophet ( Mohamed I suppose).
She was working in the fields with two muslims. It was hot and she had a drink of water.
She offered some to the two muslims but they would not drink from the same cup as a Christian. "It was unthinkable."
The report interviewed others who said that they do invite Christians to their house, but they ask them to bring their own food and have a seperate dinner service to be used by them.
Anyway, the woman, annoyed that they would not drink from the same cup as her asked if their prophet was like that, and then she allegedly blasphemed him.
She was denounced to the Pakistani authorities by her co-workers, and was subsequently sentenced to death.
She is a mother with 5 children.
People interviewed all said that yes, the sentence was merited.
Just how far can people be twisted by religious beliefs? To the point of calmly taking the most precious thing, life itself, from another human being?
Thank goodness JWs are not a state religion.
i don't even know where to start.
every jw i still have contact with is poor, their health is bad, they're stressed out, they're unhappy people.
they put on a good front but you can see the strained smiles, those distant looks into nowhere (or where their life could have gone).
Surely you are making a mistake scooterspank.
Just watch this wonderful video and you'll realise just HOW HAPPY JWs are.
http://www.jw-media.org/gbl/gbl04e.htm
Just look at all those smilling faces.
The last kingdom song of the day was:
I am h-a-p-p-y,
I am h-a-p-p-y,
I know I am,
I'm sure I am,
I am h-a-p-p-y.
urgh.
during a potluck for the hotel where i work, two housekeepers got into a fight because of some petty stuff thats been going on (so ready to quit but havent been job hunting like i should).
anywho, the head housekeepers starts bitching at the housekeeping supervisor and then bust out the other lead housekeeper, saying that she smells like a bag of onions!
i did not attend (i work third shift, and only attended event at work the first year that the hotel opened (2008).
I have been faced with this situation.
The person worked like a trojan, so sweated alot. The problem, he never changed his work clothes all week.
So I spent ten minutes commending him on what a valuable colleague he was, and one minute just mentioning that because he worked so hard, he needed to give more attention than his colleagues, to changing regularly, and maybe using deodorant.
He seemed to take it well, and most importantly, he smelled better.
i haven't posted in a long, long time, so many of you don't know me.
one of my daughters is involved with them, and will be baptized soon.. anyway, it's my anniversary, 43 years today, (may 11), and my j.w.
daughter calls me and wishes me a "happy anniversary", then invites my wife and i out on sunday to "celebrate" it.
As an exjw, I understand both yours and your daughters stance.
I am sure your daughter is delighted to be able to offer this sign of love and affection to you and your wife.
Indeed, many many jw families celebrate their own anniversary. We used to make it a time to give gifts to our children.
They are NOT ALLOWED to celebrate practically everything. So they jump on the very few occasions left.
Please DONT "burn any bridges" with your daughter, but DO try and find the words to kindly explain your point of view.
Dont expect her to change ( shes probably affraid to) but its good for you all to at least be open.
Oh, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.

I think that, with passing time, they will not even talk about these men.
After all, most people dont go beyond the surface, so they may just conveniently forget that they existed.

In fact Russell never was a Jehovahs witness.
In the Proclaimers book, page 40 they write:
Stirrings of Watchfulness
In the 19th century, though, the religious climate led to stirrings of
Christian watchfulness. As a result of Bible research on the part of some
clergymen and Bible scholars, such teachings as the immortal sod, eternal
torment after death, predestination, and the Trinity were restudied. In addition,
some students of the Bible were closely examining Bible prophecies
pertaining to the last days. Consequently, various groups of persons
began thinking seriously about the Lord's promised return.
William Miller predicted the return of Christ in
visible form in 1843 or 1844. The German theologian
J. A. Bengel set the date for 1836; the Irvingites in Engl&
dlooked first to 1835, then 1838,1864, and 1866.
There was a Mennonite group in Russia that looked
/ first to 1889, then to 1891.
So why not relegate Russell to the level of these other bible scholars, and say that the true "truth" came sometime later.
That way, they could disassociate themselves from a lot of the now embarrassing things that Russell said.
